About “Ultreya”

“Ultreya” (pronounced ull-TRAY-uh) is an exhortation you’ll hear on the Camino Francés.

This is a very long-lived pilgrimage trail in Spain. The word comes from a Latin phrase, “Ultreia et Suseia,” which loosely translates as, “Onward and upward.” In the plainest English, my company name therefore means “Onward Editorial.” But there are other connotations to the word Ultreya. One of my favorites is “Let’s do this together.”

About me

I believe fiercely that your unique and vital voice deserves to find its richest expression.

In 2022 I embraced my lifelong dream and began to build an independent enterprise around this conviction. Beginning in February of that year, I started providing copywriting and other services to a foundation that provides aviation training to teenagers. Almost a year to the day later, I added freelance copyediting to the mix, helping many first-time authors speak into the world. In 2024 I started the business you see today, which offers diverse editorial services to businesses and individuals alike.

For most of my life, I have lived and breathed writing and editing.

I have been a voracious reader since the age of four, a writer almost as long, and an editor (in the sense of one who refines, corrects, and/or gives constructive commentary on written material) for about twenty years.

I’ve honed my skills at every opportunity. I have added editorial value to jobs in IT support, customer service, and office administration. Other past employers include newspapers, the magazine giant Conde Nast, and two publishing houses. Many times I have also volunteered my skills to friends and loved ones, helping them improve poems, stories, novels, and even a college application and small business proposal.

I hold an MFA in fiction and a BA in English Literature. A big believer in continuous, multidisciplinary growth, I've also studied math, sociology, computer programming, design/UX, Spanish (I can survive on it), and Italian (I'm getting there). After traveling to Europe, my ravenous hunger for learning grew to include history.

Clients love how much I help them advance in their creative goals.

Those with whom I work benefit from my clear and reliable communication, unnatural eye for detail, and fierce commitment to excellence. Clients additionally relish the fact that I "get" them due to my empathic nature. And once we finish working together, people often tell me that they feel much more satisfied with their writing, clearer about their creative and communication goals, and empowered with tools to get where they need to go next.

This makes my day, because I love to use my skills to empower others to exercise theirs.

With Ultreya Editorial, I aspire to help writers complete stages of refinement at a very high level of quality. Just as importantly, I want to be a source of thoughtful reflection as you travel, a provider of tools when the path forward seems unclear, and a fellow pilgrim encouraging you as you climb to ever-greater heights of expression, connection, and growth.
